To become an Attorney at Law you must apply to take and pass the BAR Exam, which is available at the Federal Building. You can apply for the exam online by filing out the application below. You will then be required to report the State Police and request a profile photo and fingerprints to be taken and placed on file. Once completed, you will notify the Attorney General and inform him that you are ready to take the exam.
The exam is an open book test and there is a fee of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000) required to be paid in full before you receive the test. You must pass the test with a score of 80 or above.
Once you pass the test you will be issued a Lawyer’s Pass and may start practicing law within the State. There is no State Salary associated with being a Lawyer as your clients are required to pay you for services rendered. However, you can work for the State as a Prosecutor or a Public Defender which pay a nice salary. Public Defenders can also do any outside work, whereas Prosecutors are limited to doing non-criminal outside work.
